SG 4-4-0 American Steam Locomotive

TRS2004 / TRS2006

The General is an American 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive that was made famous in a daring raid from the North during the American Civil war of 1861-1865.
The original engine was built in 1855 by Rogers, Ketchum & Grosvenor of Paterson, N.J. for the Western & Atlantic Railroad.
The General went through several 'mishaps' during the war, being severely damaged in one raid and rebuilt at that time. She was refitted in the 1960's, and displayed throughout the country during the Centennial of the Civil War. The original engine used wood as fuel. She was converted to burn coal in the 1870's, and finally in the 1960's converted to use Oil as fuel. My models depict the wood burning version.
The current museum colors are depicted in the 'Museum' model. Plans are to use this model and make a Civil War version.
The Engine is currently located at the Southern Museum of Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia. USA. Details about the engine as well as it's history, photographs, and even a 1927 full length movie starring Buster Keaton can be accessed at

AMERICAN CIVIL WAR GENERAL

SG 4-4-0 American Steam Locomotive

TRS2004 / TRS2006

The General is an American 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive that was made famous in a daring raid from the North during the American Civil war of 1861-1865.

The original engine was built in 1855 by Rogers, Ketchum & Grosvenor of Paterson, N.J. for the Western & Atlantic Railroad.

The General went through several 'mishaps' during the war, being severely damaged in one raid in 1864 and rebuilt in 1871. THIS MODEL IS A RECREATION OF THE CIVIL WAR ENGINE AND TENDER 1855 TO 1864.

This engine is a wood burning engine and will 'refuel' at any of Pencil42's wood refueling stations. It also employees an automated 'fireman' who tends to feeding the firebox and adjusts water levels. IF you want to fire the fireman, simply hit 'shift SPACE'. To re-hire, 'Shift SPACE' again.

Colors and details were arrived at by combining 2 paintings of the Civil War General and Microscales Decal sheet 87-1173 along with various photos of engines of that period. One painting was by Wilbur Kurtz, (a leading authority on the General at the time of the painting), the other image was acquired from the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. Some artistic liberties were included by myself on this model.

The Engine is currently located at the Southern Museum of Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia. USA. Details about the engine as well as it's history, photographs, and even a 1927 full length movie starring Buster Keaton can be accessed at

Americas love affair with a steam engine

UTC / TRS2004

This locomotive dominated the American railway system for 40 years from the mid 1840s.

Typically weighing 90,000 pounds it originally operated at around 100psi. It was nearly 16.8 meters long and could generate seven thousand pounds of tractive effort. While it had a top speed of 60mph it averaged 25mph.

The wheel spacing is set for 3 foot NG Track and the internal view on the tender is the engineers view.

Note: You can change the rail co. name by adding text to the westerntemp.tga file in the tender file and replacing the 'western.tga'

The Merced Gold Mining company worked a mine in the mountains above the San Joaquin Valley in California and used a 24 inch gauge Porter Locomotive Company 0-4-0T loco to haul mined ore to the mill lower down in the valley. The tipping ore cars used were built by the Denver Engineering Company. The loco was known by the locals as either 'Whistling Jimmy' or 'Leaping Lena'
The models shown were closely copied from drawings of the actual equipment and portrayed in the well worked and rusty finish that decorated the originals after a long life of hard work. As the Porter was a standard design for narrow gauge use a set of 36 inch gauge models is also provided.
Both sets of model are made to run on track made to chunky_mesh standard height of 0.3 metre'

The engineer animation is toggled by the Pantograph button.

Loco Model by Peter Pardoe-Matthew (Narrowgauge)

Loco Sounds by Gary Hoorn

Animated Engineer by Shane Permann (Cowboy)

NOTE:

Due to an untraceable bug in Trainz, sometimes at the end of the first part of the animation cycle some or all of the engineer figure may disappear, and show again when the reverse cycle starts. If this annoys you, I am sorry, and suggest you ignore the animation. Enjoy the models

These locos are loosely based on Uintah Railway number 20 and 21, as they appeared when delivered in 1905. Both are equipped with random bric-a-brack on the pilots, a water pump for taking on water from streams, bubblegum, and bailing wire. Though they probably wouldn't have been built as oil burners, they were converted to burn bunker C oil later.

'A generic version of the Gilpin Tramway #2 shay'

TRS2004 / TRS2006

This is a freelance model of a Class B 2 Truck Logging Shay. This Shay is designed for 2ft gauge track and is loosely based on Trinity County Lumber Co. Shay #161 (sn-161).

This is a beta model and updates may follow sometime later depending on any issues found.

The model and texture was provided by Ben Neal (bdaneal) and was edited by me. Many thanks to Chris Grossman (atsfrr3000) and David Johnson (GP_38-2) for testing the model for errors in TRS2006. Thanks to them the model should be error free and work with all versions of Trainz 04 and up. Also thanks to Ben Neal (bdaneal) for supplying the base model of his wonderful Gilpin 'Russell'. And a thanks to Kevin Martin (kevmt) for his safety valve scripting. The texture mapping and mesh will be changed in the future. Updates will be available as I make them.
