I know you’re all probably busy with the new album, but here is all the non purchasable stuff I have for The 1975 / DLID as I promised I would upload.

Back when I was a teenager (maybe 10 years ago???) my mate Matt Sayward (guitarist in The Cape Race) and friend of the band and I would spend all our evenings on MSN messenger talking and trading music. Whether it was a new single from a band we liked or new music we thought each other would like.

One night he said his mate’s band had recorded some demos with Pete Miles and I had to hear them.

He sent me Sex, The Go and Robbers. I was instantly hooked and we spent the next few years talking about the band, ripping every new demo from MySpace or Matt would send me anything new he was sent. I introduced as many people as I could to the band as I thought they were incredible. Matt and I always thought they had the talent to headline Glastonbury one day, but he always said they were stoners and although they had the talent, didn’t have the drive to get themselves anywhere. So you can see how great it is that all that has all changed.

I was a completist on my iTunes and everything had to be labelled correctly and have album artwork etc. So most of the artwork I created myself, such as the one for Matches EP, where the girl in the red coat is my daughter. So its pretty weird to see that image on Youtube videos etc and thinking what’s my daughter doing on there. I never thought they would end up all around the world.

For all the best odds and ends of demos etc. I brought them together to create a sort of album as I thought I would never get to purchase one from a shop, this is the one I simply titled Drive Like I Do, it was never an actual release by them. Most of the songs were the demos they recorded with Pete Miles with a few others thrown in. The artwork for this was taken by Rosie Hardy, a local brilliant photographer and friend of the band (https://picasaweb.google.com/116356032293641293514/DriveLikeIDo) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/rosie_hardy/).

There was once a video for 28 that a student at Manchester Uni made for them where various people were running from something through woods, an industrial complex and a beach, which turned out to be a digital wave. Since this was removed from YouTube I’ve longed to see it again. If anyone has a copy please please please upload it.

I’ve seen a lot of you mention the rock garden songs. Matt only had those 2 songs and I don’t think any more exist.

With regards to Chocolate, they uploaded the original demo to their MySpace and then a few weeks later there was a new version but they just called it ‘chocolate’ too, so I named it chocolate v2 to differentiate between the 2, and then there was another new version again a few weeks later again just called chocolate but it seemed to me like it just had remix effects and editing on it rather than a new recording so I named it remixed. Obviously I’m not sure whether these titles are necessarily true.

Album

Around the time they started calling themselves B I G S L E E P and The Slowdown, I saw another friend of the band on last.fm had a few new demos and he was kind enough to send them to me, they were One Wish, She Way Out, Sex and Ghosts.

Around this time the band SUPPORTED ‘The Cape Race’ for their album launch as ‘The Slowdown’. Crazy how things change.

I’m pretty sure this is everything they recorded/released to anyone outside the band when they were Drive Like I Do, as Matt was sent everything as it was done. So any other tracks that people have mentioned probably don’t exist, although never give up hope. I’d love to hear some other long lost gems. It looks like there was another user that had loads of other live 1975 stuff and it looked like a couple of other demos, hopefully he can upload some of that stuff too.
